Ampervans – Camper tutto elettrico negli Scottish Borders

We rented Ampervan for a 2 week long road trip around Scotland. Having never used an electric car or driven on the left side of around, or done any sort of "van camping". Needless to say we were a bit nervous about the whole thing before we got ahold of the van! Once we did, all of our worries vanished in a matter of hours: - The van itself is super easy to drive, it is not of humongous size, meaning it is quite easy to use even on the packed Edinburgh by pass! It was still a bit hard to get used to the left side of the road thingy, but that was 100% due to our own driving skills not related to the van itself. - The camping bit: it is super convenient, and confortable. Huge bonus: the roof can become an amazing "chill out and read" zone, with 3 sides open to really enjoy the beauty of Scotland (beware of the Midges tho). The downstairs bed is very comfy and the electric stove/sink is good enough to do basic cooking. It is true that it can get a bit cramped when the bed is extended and we would recommend planning ahead and not doing so until the very last moment! - The electric part: let's not beat around the bush, by some aspects, having an electric camper van can be a bit daunting: worrying about range, and charger condition can become a bit of a ever looming veil above one's enjoyment of the trip. However there are many tools to ease this potential anxiety. First of which is planning your trip ahead, and realising that Scotland is not that big and filled with chargers! Use Zap Map to locate those and draft your trip to go from one to another. It might seem like a constraint at first but it does force one to plan a "slower" type of trip and enjoy the most of what the lovely country has to offer. We made it all the way to Durness and the Isle of Skye, while never even getting close to running out of battery. Indeed the range/charing bit is daunting, but with some planning it is not a blocker whatsoever, knowing that your holiday was note as harmful to the environment as it would have been is its own reward as well. In a nutshell, Ampervan is a great option for those who want to discover Scotland, comfy, convenient, and eco-friendly. Lastly the owners of this vehicle are extremely friendly and helpful!
