We had a wonderful trip through Portugal with José's campervan and created many great family memories along the way. The communication throughout the rental process was excellent. José was always responsive, helpful and clear in his communication, both before and during the rental. The camper is an older vehicle, but it allowed us to explore some beautiful parts of Portugal that we would otherwise not have visited. Future renters should, however, be aware that the return inspection is extremely thorough and that cosmetic damage is assessed quite strictly. In our case, very light scratches on the rear bumper resulted in a repair and repaint quotation of almost €300, in addition to several other deductions from the security deposit. For travellers who intend to stay exclusively on campsites and use main roads, this may not be an issue. However, if you plan to explore smaller roads, nature areas or more remote locations, it is worth being aware that minor cosmetic marks can occur during normal campervan travel and may still result in repair charges. I would strongly recommend taking extensive photos and videos of both the interior and exterior at check-in and allowing significantly more time than expected for the return inspection. Despite informing José that we had a flight to catch, the check-out process took considerably longer than anticipated. Unfortunately, we missed our flight home as a result, which caused significant additional costs and inconvenience for our family. Before your rental, the rear bumper had been freshly repainted and was in excellent condition. At check-out, it had new scratches that were not present at check-in. I took care to find a suitable repair shop and obtain the most economical quote I could for repairing the damage caused during the rental. Regarding off-grid travel, I have absolutely no objection to guests enjoying this type of experience, provided they take the necessary care when driving and parking the motorhome, particularly in wooded or uneven areas. Guests are also expected to respect local rules, including restrictions on overnight stays in certain natural areas. As explained in the listing and in Yescapa's rental conditions, guests are responsible for damage caused to the vehicle during their rental. This is why I carry out a detailed check-in briefing and inspection, documenting the vehicle's condition so that it can be compared with the check-out inspection. In this case, several issues were identified, including the scratched rear bumper, a damaged entrance curtain, a damaged table top, damaged auxiliary battery supports, and the missing fuel cap. There was also fuel missing from the tank, outstanding toll charges and a cleaning fee, all handled in accordance with the rental conditions. The check-out took longer than usual because these damages and missing items had to be documented. As stated in the listing, the inspection and handover process normally takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Airport check-in and arrival times are ultimately the guest's responsibility, and I recommend allowing sufficient time for both the vehicle return and airport procedures. Throughout the rental, I did my best to be helpful and transparent, including making an effort to arrange a bicycle for your son, beach towels and other items to make your family holiday more enjoyable. The security deposit exists to cover damage and outstanding costs, and the majority of your deposit was returned after the relevant deductions. A nossa experiência com este aluguer foi bastante negativa, sobretudo pela falta de transparência e comunicação por parte do proprietário. O check-in foi realizado pelo proprietário, mas o check-out foi feito por outras pessoas, o que desde logo levanta questões. No momento da entrega, não foi reportado qualquer problema. No entanto, vários dias depois começaram a surgir cobranças adicionais. Foi-nos imposto no check-in um custo de 80€ de limpeza que não estava claramente indicado no anúncio. Apesar disso, no final ainda foram acrescentados mais 15€ de limpeza exterior, o que revela falta de clareza nas condições. Também nos foi imputado um custo por não termos despejado as águas, algo que não corresponde à realidade — temos inclusive comprovativo de pagamento do local onde efetuámos o despejo. Adicionalmente, foi cobrado um valor extra por quilómetros, sem qualquer evidência ou registo que permita validar essa informação uma vez que também foi enviado a posteriori. Foi ainda reportado um alegado dano num cortinado, que não foi identificado no momento do check-out, mais uma vez sem hipóteses de confirmação da veracidade do mesmo. Para além de tudo isto, quando precisámos de apoio horas antes do check-out, o proprietário não respondeu às nossas mensagens. No conjunto, a experiência foi marcada por falta de transparência, comunicação insuficiente e imputação de vários custos que consideramos injustificados. Não recomendamos.   ------------------------------------------ Resposta do Proprietário: Lamento que o locatário tenha ficado com esta perceção da experiência. Importa, no entanto, esclarecer alguns factos. Antes da entrega da viatura foi comunicado ao locatário que o check-out seria efetuado por pessoas da minha confiança, situação que foi aceite. Foi igualmente comunicado que a caução ficaria temporariamente retida para realização da vistoria completa da autocaravana após o meu regresso. No momento do check-in foi ainda explicado ao locatário que a taxa de limpeza interior seria deduzida da caução caso a viatura não fosse devolvida nas condições de limpeza exigidas. Esta informação encontra-se igualmente descrita no anúncio da autocaravana e foi comunicada presencialmente no momento da entrega da viatura. No próprio dia da entrega, o locatário confirmou por escrito que a caução permaneceria retida para verificação de eventuais danos ou valores pendentes, referindo expressamente que os mesmos seriam deduzidos caso se verificassem. Após a vistoria foram identificadas várias situações, nomeadamente quilometragem excedida, portagens, necessidade de limpeza interior e danos na cortina de privacidade. Toda esta informação foi comunicada diretamente ao locatário, acompanhada dos respetivos comprovativos. Posteriormente, o processo foi analisado pela Yescapa, que validou os valores relativos à quilometragem excedida, portagens, limpeza interior e reparação da cortina. Por esse motivo, não me revejo na afirmação de que tenha existido falta de transparência da minha parte. Procuro sempre atuar com honestidade, comunicar de forma clara com os locatários e documentar todas as situações que possam surgir durante uma reserva. Também não me revejo na afirmação de que tenha existido falta de apoio ou ausência de resposta às mensagens. Durante toda a reserva mantive contacto com o locatário através dos meios disponíveis, prestando os esclarecimentos e apoio solicitados sempre que necessário. A minha intenção foi sempre resolver a situação de forma amigável e diretamente com o locatário, tendo sido devolvida a maior parte da caução logo após a validação dos custos identificados. Continuarei a receber os meus locatários com a mesma transparência, disponibilidade e dedicação que procuro demonstrar em todas as reservas.

The motorhome itself was spotless, comfortable, and fully equipped with everything we needed for a perfect trip. He gave us great travel tips, and made sure we felt confident before heading out.
