We had a fantastic week long adventure in Gandalf in Scotland! The van is easy to drive and has everything you need. Chris has thought of it all. I loved all the personal touches in the van. I particularly enjoyed reading the log book, which contains journal notes from everyone’s experiences when they hire the van. We both also enjoyed using the printer in the van to capture a few memories from our holiday. Scotland is such a beautiful place and we were so lucky to experience a fab aurora one of the nights we were there. We also saw wild stags and deer which was amazing. The views are just stunning where ever you go in Scotland, I can’t recommend it enough.

We had a fantastic two weeks away in Gandalf exploring the west coast of Scotland! Gandalf is easy to drive even in the narrow Scottish roads, and well kitted out with everything you need. Chris and Ali are so kind and easy to communicate with. They thought of everything. Would definitely recommend and hope we can make it back up to the Highlands again in Gandalf!

Chris was a lovely host who went out of his way to accomodate our needs and ensure that our family had a memorable and magical trip. We are so very appreciative for his time and generosity, and would highly recommend ‘Gandalf’ to any fellow travellers. It was an extraordinary way to tour Scotland with two young children who didn’t want the trip to end (likewise for the adults), and we would have extended our adventure if we had had the time! We booked the van from our home in Australia and the whole booking and travelling process was seamless and very straightforward. ‘Gandalf’ comfortably slept the four of us (the kids loved the bunk in the roof) and was a delight to drive- a perfect size for narrow roads but also to park in busy towns. Chris is a incredible communicator and promptly responded to any questions we had and we always felt supported on our trip. I also emailed Goboony with some questions and it was great company to book through. Thank you Chris and Gandalf-already dreaming of our next trip!

Chris was also super flexible regarding the pick up and drop off times for us, and even let us have him for an extra day. We rented Gandalf – the Grey Campervan from Chris for the second half of August 2023. We spent two weeks driving Gandalf the campervan there and back again from Edinburgh to Isle of Skye, along NC500 and the Eastern coast of Scotland, to Edinburgh. The campervan was very clean, mechanically sound, and well equipped with all utensils that may be needed, and ready for adventure with tank full of diesel, ca. 30 litres (tank + container) of water for drinking and dish washing, and gas cylinder for cooking. Chris provided us with new and warm bed lining, which was great for cool Scottish nights. The Gandalf drives smoothly and handles windy conditions, steep ascends/descends, and curvy roads very well. It is a short version of VW Transporter, which is great for manoeuvring narrow single-track roads in the North and helps with finding parking space in busy places. The fuel tank is generous and lasts for several hundreds of miles, so we were on a safe side when exploring the North Coast. We travelled as family of three, and a double passenger seat in the front row was very welcome. Chris is very responsive, always on time, and very helpful with all arrangements. He showed us how to safely operate all the systems of the Grey Wizard-van before we set for Highlands. We could always contact him if needed. Everything was flawless. We highly recommend him and the Gandalf campervan for Scottish adventures!

First and foremost, the van rental experience itself was seamless. The vehicle was clean, well-maintained, and equipped with all the essentials needed for a comfortable journey. We were actually recommended this van by one of our neighbours who had also taken a trip in it! Chris was very helpful and was able to provide us with all the information and support we needed to get started on our journey. We brought our dog, Rowan, along with us, and she settled into the van life very well! We took the van on a small tour of Dumfries and Galloway as well as the Scottish Borders. The flexibility of travelling in a rented van allowed us to venture off the beaten path. Whether it was parking up next to a serene loch, enjoying a picnic with a view, or simply pulling over to watch the sun go down over the sea. The van allowed us to stop and take moments we would never have considered before. We'd be happy to rent this van again and would easily recommend Gandalf to others.

Our experience with Gandalf has been overall amazing! Both the van and it’s owner revealed to be extremely kind and gentile, satisfying all our needs and more! Chris is a very gentile soul. He did everything he could to make our trip more comfortable, arranging an Edinburg pickup, and warm comfy blankets for our cold Scottish nights. As we got into the van, everything was clean and in order, very carefully kept and treated, which was a beautiful foreshadows of how much we would have enjoyed our travelling experience. The van was very comfortable and easy to handle! For two drivers not experienced in UK roads, this vehicle helped us at least on the mechanical aspect of the experience, not causing any problem, and on the contrary, being extremely manoeuvrable. Thank you Chris and Gandalf for this experience! We’ll see each other again if the occasion will arise! 😌

Greta and I took Gandalf for a 10 days trip to the Highlands and Skye. The van has worked perfectly, it's equipped with all the necessary and well organised. Chris has been nice and helpful since the first contact. We absolutely recomand him and the rental of Gandalf for your adventures, it has been a true fellow of our journey and we already miss it so much!

Me and my partner rented the camper Gandalf from Chris over a week to do the NC500. Chris was super responsive, helpful and accommodating since the very beginning. The campervan is simply the best one I’ve ever booked; it has absolutely everything you need, it’s comfortable and the fuel consumption is very low. We had an amazing time thanks to Chris and Gandalf. 100% recommended and I will definitely rent it again.

First of all a big shout out to Chris, who was very kind and helpful from the first moment we got in contact with each other. We've only met Ali once very briefly and I immediately believed all the good words I read about in the other reviews.
Gandalf has been perfect the entire way. Good on fuel, easy to drive and some good quality of music as well! The only downside was that the weather forecast let us believe it was supposed to be a lot warmer, so we weren't really prepared for the cold nights in the highlands. Luckily there were some extra blankets tucked away in some of the luxurious compartment space.
Would 10/10 hire again!

First off, Chris and Ali were so helpful and friendly! Chris helped with tips about my travels before hand and Ali gave a full explanation of how to use everything in Gandalf.
Gandalf himself was amazing, perfect for completing the NC500. Easy to drive and a great size for the winding roads of the highlands. Also really easy to get parked and good on fuel. Inside has everything you could need, cleverly packed and hidden away to maximise use of space. Lots of space for sleeping and really comfortable! I wouldn’t look anywhere else in future when I’m looking to book a camper for further trips.

Gandalf made our NC500 holiday even better than planned. Chris and Ali were fantastic to deal with the whole way through. Ali gave us a great tour of the van to begin, and the whole family even pitched in with help from afar when Gandalf punctured a tyre.
Coming from someone that has only ever owned hatchbacks, the van is incredibly easy to drive, has no problems getting up mountains, or travelling down tiny country roads.
There are more than enough options to help cook meals, to the point where I completely forgot about the BBQ! And there was a good amount of space for sleeping 2, with one of us in the pull-down, and the other in the pop-up.
I’d really recommend both the van, and dealing with Chris and Ali.

Chris is a great person who very quickly became a friend. The campervan was in first class condition, clean, tidy and with all the required cooking utensils and a few extras to get my holiday started.
The campervan performed faultlessly over the 7 days I had it and completed around 750 miles.

It was the best decision to take Gandalf with us on our trip! Easy to drive for the first time campervan driver, has everything you need for comfortable wild camping. The only advice for those who want to cook mainly inside Gandalf - the water tank is enough for about 3 washes.
Chris was very helpful and easy to reach throughout the trip (Scottish Highlands reception permitting!).

You could not find a better van and more friendly host than Chris and his fantastic VW van Gandalf.
We had fantastic time in Scotland and will definitely come back but this time for longer period and will properly explore west cost of Scotland.

Gandalf the grey campervan more than met our expectations and Chris was a fantastic host. We took the camper for a week to the Trossachs and the Isle of Mull, and Gandalf was very smooth and easy to drive, even on the single track roads in Mull. Chris has equipped the camper incredibly well with more than you can ask for, with some great personal touches as well. Converting the camper from driving mode to sleep mode was straightforward when you get the hang of it, and cooking and eating in the van is also really easy. Would definitely recommend Gandalf to others, and if we want to rent another camper on Scotland in the future Chris and Gandalf will be the first place we look.
